Being married for 58 years is no small accomplishment.Bill and Pauline McCann of Diamond Springs married on July 18, 1952 and are even more confident today in their decision to stay together as each day  brings them more happiness in their relationship.

At a family celebration the couple shared memories of their life together.

A display of family photos, Pauline's wedding dress, her bobbie sox and saddleshoes from the 1950s highlighted their recollections. Their wedding license stating "only good in Oklahoma" led to the family joking that they may not be legally wed outside of that state.

The couple met at a rollerskating rink in Oklahoma City. Pauline had recently graduated from high school and Bill had moved there after serving as a radio operator and B-29 gunner in W.W.II.  and receiving his honorable discharge in 1949.

After their marriage, the McCanns moved to Southern California where Bill worked as a machinist at Douglas Aircraft in Santa Monica and Pauline worked as a secretary. They built a home in Woodland Hills and then moved to Diamond Springs in 1964 and purchased a ranch.

The McCann family raised beef, sheep and other animals and their four children participated in 4-H projects and the livestock auction at the El Dorado County Fair for many years.

Bill has been a rancher in Diamond Springs for 45 years and is a familiar sight in the community in his cowboy hat. He retired twice — once as a machinist and tool and die maker in 1978, and once from Diametrics in Diamond Springs in 1992. He enjoys hunting, fishing and mountain climbing and is a member of Sons in Retirement, branches 29 and 137.

Pauline retired from the El Dorado County Office of Education as a receptionist and has worked as a youth counselor on cruise ships. She volunteers on political campaigns and both McCanns work at El Dorado County Office of Elections.

The McCanns have four children, eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild

The couple traveled throughout the United States and Canada when their children were young and they still enjoy traveling, expanding their horizons throughout the world. They have visited all seven continents, Ushuaia, Argentine the world's southernmost city and Hammerfest, Norway the world's northernmost city.

Their golden wedding anniversary in 2002 was celebrated with a trip on a coastal steamer in the Arctic Circle.
